VIDEO CONFERENCING:

Karnataka is one of the pioneers to introduce production of UTPs through the Video Conferencing System (VCS), presently installed at 7 Central Jails , 13 District Prisons, 4 District Sub Jails and 3 Sub Jails linked with various courts of the State. As many as 45698 UTPs have been produced before the courts through the Video Conferencing System as at March 2013, effecting a saving of Rs.85,22,882 /- to the State Exchequer. The Video Conferencing System is to dispense with the need of physically producing the under -trials in courts for adjournments and/ or extension of their judicial remand.

TELEPHONE FACILITIES TO INMATES:EXTENSION TO OTHER PRISONS:

Perhaps for the first time in the country, pay telephone facilities was introduced in the prisons of the State i.e. at Central Prison Bangalore and Mysore. The same has been extended to the following prisons viz., Central Prison, Belgaum (15.4.2008), Gulbarga (9.4.2008), Bijapur (8.5.2008) Dharwad (21.6.2008) and Bellary(20.6.2008). By this facility prisoner may communicate to his/her kith and kin and advocates through the telephone booth installed inside the prison premises by using prepaid cards.

MULTIPOINT VIDEO CONFERENCING

Multipoint Video Conferencing System, is one of the new initiative in the country, was installed at the City Court Complex, Bangalore This facility will connect Trial Courts not only with Central Prison, Bangalore but also 4 more locations outside Bangalore where Video Conferencing facility exists, so that if accused persons in a criminal case are spread out in different Prisons outside Bangalore, it will be possible to try the cases through Video Conferencing without physical production.

Linking Video Conference Facility with KSWAN:

To have efficient Video Conferencing facility available in 17 prisons, the facility has been linked (Last Mile Connectivity) with Karnataka State Wide Area Network(KSWAN)

IP Phones:

IP phones ,an initiative of e –governance have been provided to all Central Prisons, District Prisons and District Hq Sub Jails .
